Rabat – As Morocco hosts the Africa Cup of Nations, football is once again at the center of national attention. Beyond the matches and celebrations, new data shows that the tournament is also reshaping consumer behavior, media consumption, and everyday purchasing decisions across the country.

According to an analysis by Concli.com, based on Statista’s Soccer Market data, Morocco’s football economy is undergoing a shift driven less by stadium attendance and more by digital engagement and consumption around the sport.

A market driven by media and digital consumption

Statista projects that Morocco’s soccer market will generate over $50 million in revenue in 2025, mainly through media rights, digital content, ticketing, and merchandising.

While stadium attendance remains important, the strongest momentum is now coming from online media consumption. Moroccan fans increasingly follow matches through streaming platforms, social media, and connected devices, reflecting a broader transformation in how football creates economic value.

Young, digital-first fans are leading the shift

One of the most striking trends is the profile of Moroccan football fans. Statista estimates that the number of users engaging with soccer-related content will continue to grow steadily through the end of the decade, driven largely by younger, digitally native audiences.

These fans interact with clubs and players online, follow live matches through streaming services, and purchase merchandise via e-commerce platforms. This behavior aligns with Morocco’s youthful demographics and the growing role of digital platforms in everyday entertainment.

AFCON 2025 and consumer behavior: screens, streaming, and connectivity

Major football tournaments like the AFCON do more than boost viewership, they influence how households prepare to watch matches.

Concli’s analysis of search behavior shows a clear surge in interest for IPTV services in December compared to mid-year levels, indicating that more viewers are turning to digital alternatives for live match access. Searches related to televisions also rise around the tournament period, as households look to improve their home viewing experience.

In parallel, interest in national team jerseys and football merchandise increases sharply during the competition, reflecting both national pride and the social dimension of match days.

Connectivity plays a central role in this ecosystem. Searches related to home internet and mobile data plans tend to intensify around match periods, underscoring how live football viewing is increasingly tied to reliable digital infrastructure.

A football economy beyond the stadium

Taken together, the data suggests that Moroccan football is no longer defined solely by what happens inside stadiums: It is increasingly shaped by digital platforms, connected devices, and home-based viewing habits.

As AFCON 2025 unfolds on home soil, the tournament highlights a deeper transformation: Moroccan fans are engaging with football in more digital, more informed, and more value-conscious ways, marking a new phase in the country’s football economy.
