Hakimi Suspended for One Match, Will Miss Le Classique Against Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has been officially handed a one-match suspension by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and will miss Sunday’s highly anticipated Le Classique against Olympique de Marseille at the Parc des Princes.

The decision was confirmed on Wednesday evening by the LFP’s disciplinary committee, following Hakimi’s direct red card in PSG’s recent Ligue 1 win over Racing Strasbourg earlier this week. The sanction consists of a one-match ban plus an additional match suspended, meaning the Moroccan international will be unavailable for the important fixture.

Hakimi was dismissed late in the match against Strasbourg after a strong challenge on Strasbourg player Joaquim Panticelli in the 75th minute. The referee initially showed him a yellow card, which he then upgraded to a red after VAR review. PSG still managed a 2–1 win, with Nuno Mendes heading the decisive goal, but Hakimi’s sending-off carries immediate consequences for his next league appearance.

Losing Hakimi is a massive headache for Luis Enrique, especially with Le Classique just around the corner. Facing Marseille is always the biggest test of the season, and not having Hakimi’s speed and attacking threat down that right side is going to be a huge blow for PSG.

To fill the gap, PSG may turn to Warren Zaïre-Emery at right-back, who deputized for Hakimi after the red card at Strasbourg and helped the club see out the match without conceding further shots on target.

This suspension couldn’t have come at a worse time for the title race. While the leaders are trying to keep their momentum going, Marseille will head into this clash ready to take full advantage of any cracks in the PSG armor caused by these missing players.

This disciplinary blow follows a string of sanctions for Hakimi, who was already hit with a 2-match ban by CAF after the 2025 AFCON final. Although the African ruling and his current Ligue 1 suspension are separate issues, they’ve combined to make it a very frustrating start to 2026 for the right-back.
