France Issues 3 Million Visas in 2025, Moroccans Among Top

Rabat – France granted 300,117 visas to Moroccan citizens in 2025, a 6.1% rise from the previous year, according to figures released by the French Ministry of the Interior.

Morocco ranks as the second-largest recipient of French visas, after China and ahead of India.

In total, nearly 3 million visas were issued by France last year, a 3.5% increase compared with 2024. Officials attribute this growth to a steady recovery in international mobility after the post-pandemic rebound, with Moroccan travelers among the most represented in both short-term and long-term visa categories.

Tourism and education shape visa trends

Tourism remains the leading reason for short-term visas. Over 2 million tourist visas went to foreign nationals in 2025, a 6.4% increase, with Moroccans among the largest groups. The figures highlight the strong flow of travelers and families between the two countries.

For long-term visas, most Moroccans received permits for study (40.5%) or professional purposes (27.9%).

This pattern demonstrates the importance of academic and professional exchanges, particularly in higher education and skilled sectors.

Student and trainee visas rose to nearly 118,000 across all nationalities, with Morocco continuing to supply a significant number of students despite growing competition from other regions.

    Decline in talent visas

The category of “Talent” visas experienced a decline in 2025. Globally, these visas fell by 7.9%, and for Moroccan nationals, the drop reached 12.6%.

Experts point to stricter rules for qualified workers and targeted restrictions in economic migration programs. Despite the decline, Morocco remains among the top ten nationalities receiving such permits.

The 2025 data confirms Morocco’s strong presence in France’s visa landscape, driven by tourism, education, and family connections, even as certain economic visa streams face tighter controls.
