Fernandes Hails Mazraoui’s Defensive Display Against Chelsea

Rabat – Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has praised Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui for his performance in Saturday’s 1‑0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League.

Mazraoui, usually deployed as a full‑back, was asked to play as a central defender by interim coach Michael Carrick.

Partnering with Aidan Heaven in defense, he completed the full 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge and impressed with his composure and strength.

Speaking to Premier League media, Fernandes pointed to Mazraoui’s adaptability. “Mazraoui was excellent.

The whole back line played a very strong game,” he said. “He was out of position but did a great job, very strong in duels. The defense worked hard together.”

Carrick’s decision to shift Mazraoui into the middle was a bold tactical move, but it paid off. United kept a clean sheet and secured three valuable points thanks to a collective defensive effort.

Mazraoui’s ability to adjust to an unfamiliar role showed his versatility and commitment to the team.

The Moroccan international has built a reputation for his attacking runs and technical quality from full‑back, but Saturday’s match underlined another side of his game.

His positioning, aerial presence, and resilience in challenges helped United withstand Chelsea’s pressure.

Manchester United’s 1‑0 win over Chelsea on April 18 moved them up to fifth in the Premier League with 58 points, keeping their Champions League hopes alive.

The win narrowed the gap to the top four and strengthened their push for qualification as the season enters its final stretch.
