Rabat – Authorities in Sidi Kacem province moved swiftly today to evacuate residents of El Kabarta village, located near the Sebou River, following heavy rainfall that threatened low-lying areas.

The operation aimed to protect lives and safeguard property from potential flooding.

The Dar Laaslouji commune, in coordination with provincial and central authorities, opened emergency shelters to host displaced families.

Mechraâ Erradm center in the Andalous neighborhood received 130 families, around 600 people, while Al Mrifek shelter accommodated 45 families, roughly 150 residents. Officials also prepared Oulad Moussa as a backup facility in case of further need.

Authorities deployed mattresses, blankets, 150 additional tents, and food supplies to ensure that families received support in safe and dignified conditions.

Younesse Boudane, president of the commune, explained that the priority focused on relocating villagers from the partially flooded El Kabarta to the Mechraâ Erradm area, safely away from the Sebou River.

He stressed that the local administration mobilized all available resources to ensure families had shelter, basic necessities, and protection for their belongings.

Evacuations extended beyond homes. The Al Mrifek school was emptied, and its equipment moved to secure locations to prevent damage.

The operation took place under the supervision of the provincial governor, with support from the Royal Gendarmerie, auxiliary forces, and Civil Protection teams.

“The main objective is to protect human lives,” Boudane said. He added that monitoring committees remain active 24 hours a day to observe river levels, respond to emergencies, and protect livestock and property.

Similar preventive measures took place in neighboring communes, including Al Haouafate, Sidi Al Kamel, and Rmilat, reflecting the readiness of local authorities to respond effectively to exceptional weather events.
