COLDWATER – The Coldwater Cardinal boys varsity soccer team secured their first outright Interstate 8 Conference championship since the magical season of 2016 with a dominant 7-0 win over Hastings Thursday night.

With the win, the Cardinals’ conference record improves to 5-0-1, securing Coldwater their first outright title in nearly a decade after sharing league titles in 2021 and 2023.

Coldwater raced out to an early lead they never looked back from as the Cardinals managed to build a 3-0 lead by the first half break. Scoring for Coldwater was Abdulhamid Munnasar with two goals while Abdullah Ahmed landed the third goal to make it 3-0.

Coldwater kept the pressure on early in the second half and it was Munnasar recording his third goal and the hat trick just seven minutes into the new half, making it 4-0 in favor of Coldwater. Also adding to the Cardinals lead in the second half with goals of their own were Nasser Abdullah, Raith Shaamala, and Ahmed Norman.

Nasser Abdulah also had two assists in the victory while Austin Accardi, Abdullah Ahmed, Ahmed Norman, Sebastian Ocampo, and Mason Sabatis all had one each in the offensive onslaught.

Franky Ramos made five saves in goal for the Cardinals to secure his fourth shutout of the season as Coldwater outshot 27-6 in the win.

Coldwater is now 11-5-1 overall on the season and will travel to Gull Lake Saturday for non-conference play.
