Rabat – The crew of a CalMac ferry, a Scottish operator, rescued a man from the sea off from Morocco.

On Monday, the BBC reported the operation as a dramatic nighttime rescue.

The news outlet said the MV Isle of Islay is en route to Scotland after it was built at a Turkish shipyard.

The recently built ferry had to leave Gibraltar due to weather disturbances.

When it reached the Moroccan coast, the crew saw a man in the water.

“The crew quickly deployed the fast rescue craft to recover him and get him onboard,” The BBC said.

Authorities handed the rescued man over after they looked after him onboard for “several days,” the source concluded.

CalfMac’s fleet management director commended the crew’s support, noting that the crews were well-trained and acted fast to take part in rescues at sea.

The crew often supports the coastguard in Scottish waters, Louis de Wolff said, stressing that none of the crew expected to be involved in a rescue.

“But it is a testament to the professionalism of our crew that the individual was saved from dangerous sea and weather conditions in just a few minutes,” he explained

The ferry is facing difficult challenges on its journey to Scotland due to the weather, including windspeeds, noted the BBC report.

“The vessel sheltered off the east coast of Morocco before berthing at Almeria port over the weekend,” itsaid.
