Rabat – Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi has been included among La Liga players with the most Man of the Match awards this season, despite missing several weeks through injury.
Spanish outlet Marca released a list of the top performers up to matchday 29, and Ounahi appears in the top 20 with multiple MVP awards.
He shares that ranking with high-profile names such as Raphinha and Vinicius Jr, two players who feature regularly in attacking roles.
Ounahi’s presence on the list stands out given the circumstances. The Girona midfielder missed several matches earlier in the season after suffering a calf injury during AFCON 2025. That setback slowed his rhythm, but he managed to return and quickly regain influence in the team.
At Girona, Ounahi plays a key role in midfield under coach Michel Sanchez. He helps link defense and attack, controls tempo, and adds creativity in tight spaces. His performances have made him one of the most important players in the system.
Most of the players ranked in the list are attackers, which makes Ounahi’s inclusion even more notable as a midfielder.
Kylian Mbappe leads the ranking with 10 Man of the Match awards, followed by Lamine Yamal with seven. Jorge de Frutos and Ante Budimir also appear among the top performers.
The Moroccan midfielder has now joined the national team camp as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup. He featured in the recent friendly against Ecuador, which ended 1-1.
He is expected to play again in Morocco’s next match against Paraguay on March 31 in Lens, France.
Ounahi’s season continues to build quietly, but his performances at the club level and with the national team suggest he remains a key player moving forward.
