Rabat—Morocco got off to a slow start against Comoros, 108th in the FIFA rankings, but the Atlas Lions eventually found their rhythm and secured a 2-0 win at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, taking three points and topping Group A.

The match started with an early chance for Morocco in the 10th minute, when a penalty was awarded. Soufiane Rahimi’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor, keeping the score level.

Morocco also had to deal with an early setback when Romain Saïss was forced off through injury, replaced by Jawad El Yamiq. Despite this, Morocco gradually took control, dominating possession of the ball and taking seven shots in the first half, though they couldn’t break through before halftime.

In the second half, Morocco refreshed their attack with Ezzalzouli coming on for Ounahi and El Kaabi replacing Rahimi. The breakthrough finally came in the 55th minute, when Brahim Diaz scored with a precise right-foot strike, assisted by Mazraoui, giving Morocco a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, at the 75th minute, Ayoub El Kaabi, freshly on the pitch, scored with an acrobatic left-foot bicycle kick, extending Morocco’s lead to 2-0 and sealing the victory.

With this win, Morocco claims three points and starts the tournament on a high note. The Atlas Lions will now look ahead to their next match against Mali on Friday, December 26.
