Algeciras-Tanger Med Ferry Traffic Resumes After Weather

Rabat – Maritime traffic on the Algeciras-Tangier Med route returned gradually on Friday after severe weather forced a temporary halt, the Algeciras Bay Port Authority reported.

Since the route reopened, about a dozen ships have departed for Tangier Med, helping to clear the backlog of passengers and vehicles that accumulated during the suspension.

Officials warned that operations remain sensitive to the weather, and despite calmer seas, the fleet still operates below full capacity.

Shipping companies continue to adjust schedules and departures to match conditions.

In contrast, ferry connections between Tarifa and Tangier remain suspended. Trips from Tarifa continue to be canceled until the sea stabilizes and safe navigation is possible.

Freight traffic at Algeciras Port has restarted partially. Container terminals resumed activity early Friday morning, with six ships currently docked. However, access for international transport trucks remains restricted.

The port authority noted that full restoration of maritime links with Moroccan ports will depend on the evolution of the weather in the Strait of Gibraltar over the next hours.

This resumption of maritime traffic comes as Morocco faces a period of disturbed weather, with heavy rains and strong winds affecting coastal regions.

Authorities have urged travelers and transport operators to remain cautious, as conditions in some areas continue to fluctuate.
