Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal have announced that Moroccan international goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is currently dealing with a thigh muscle contusion after returning from duty with the Moroccan national team at the AFCON 2025.
The club released an official medical update on January 23, 2026, confirming that Bounou underwent examinations at the team’s Mina medical clinic, where the injury to his anterior thigh (quadriceps) muscle was diagnosed. He has since begun a specific treatment and rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.

Bounou, who played a key role in Morocco’s AFCON campaign, helping them reach the final and being named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper, reported discomfort upon rejoining Al-Hilal’s training sessions.
At this stage, the club has not specified how long the goalkeeper will be out, and Bounou is expected to undergo further assessments, including possible imaging scans, to determine the full extent of the injury and a projected return date.
Al-Hilal also revealed that defender Kalidou Koulibaly is receiving treatment for a separate muscle issue, but no timeframes for either player’s return have been confirmed.
The news comes as a blow for Al-Hilal’s ambitions in both the Saudi Pro League and continental competition, where the experienced keeper has been a key figure since joining the club.
