“A Moroccan machine”: Luis Enrique Hails Achraf Hakimi

PSG Coach Luis Enrique spoke very highly of Achraf Hakimi when asked about him before Paris Saint-Germain faced Lorient.

“He’s a Moroccan machine. He plays at a very high level, it’s incredible. Having Achraf is like having three players at the same time.”

He also confirmed the update ahead of the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich. “Unfortunately, he won’t be in Munich.”

PSG have confirmed Hakimi is dealing with a thigh injury and will be out for several weeks.

The issue had already appeared in Ligue 1 against Angers, where he felt discomfort and was substituted at half-time. Despite that, he started the first leg against Bayern. During that match, he showed visible discomfort but stayed on the pitch. That decision now has consequences. PSG go into the second leg without one of their most important players.

A season that explains his importance

Hakimi’s role this season is clear in both numbers and records.

He has made 31 appearances, scored 3 goals, and provided 8 assists, with more than 2,500 minutes played. In April, he reached 200 matches for PSG, a milestone he described as “a great honour.”

He has also become one of PSG’s most-capped players in European competition, now ranked among the top five in the club’s history on that stage.

His role inside the squad has grown. He is the vice-captain, has worn the armband multiple times this season, and recently extended his contract until 2029. On an individual level, he was named CAF African Player of the Year 2025.

His performances have also drawn praise from former players. Brazilian legend Cafu described him as “the best right-back in the world today,” pointing to his impact in both phases of the game.

Hakimi’s absence is not just about one position. He brings width, forward runs and defensive recovery on the right side. He is involved in build-up play and transitions, and he maintains a high level across competitions.

Without him, PSG will have to adjust their structure for a decisive match against Bayern.
