Rabat – Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi featured in UEFA Champions League action despite physical concerns, raising new doubts about his fitness for the remainder of the season and upcoming international duties.

The Paris Saint-Germain right-back started the semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich while carrying a thigh issue. Hakimi had already experienced discomfort in his hamstring during a recent Ligue 1 outing against Angers, where he was substituted at half-time as a precaution.

PSG’s medical staff had at first approved Hakimi for action, with head coach Luis Enrique opting to rely on him for the high-stakes European encounter. However, the decision now appears to carry risks, as the defender showed visible signs of discomfort throughout the match.

Late in the game, Hakimi collapsed moments before the final whistle, clutching the back of his leg. With PSG having already used all available substitution windows, he remained on the pitch until the end, intensifying concerns over a potential aggravation of the injury.

The situation casts uncertainty over his availability for the return leg, as well as future fixtures. According to reports, the issue resurfaced in the closing stages of the match, described as thigh pain that could range from severe cramps to a more serious muscular problem.

Speaking after the game, Luis Enrique downplayed the severity but remained cautious. “The injuries? Mostly cramps. We’ll see how things develop. I hope Achraf’s issue is nothing more than severe cramps.,” Enrique said.  His comments leave the door open to multiple interpretations, with no definitive diagnosis confirmed.

Hakimi’s condition will now be closely monitored in the coming days ahead of the decisive second leg. The situation is particularly sensitive given PSG’s demanding schedule and the broader implications for Morocco, with major international competitions on the horizon.

While no official setback has been confirmed, the decision to field Hakimi despite prior discomfort may prove consequential. Playing through pain at this stage of the season introduces uncertainty, not only for PSG’s European ambitions but also for the player’s short- and long-term physical condition.
