Tanger Med Seizes 33 Kilograms Cocaine Shipment Bound for Italy

Casablanca – Morocco’s judicial police in Tangier have launched an investigation after a cocaine shipment was intercepted at Tanger Med port today.

The 33.4 kilogram shipment was found inside a metal container that had arrived from Ecuador and was heading to an Italian port. During a routine check, officers searched the container’s refrigeration unit and uncovered 30 tightly packed slabs of cocaine.

The discovery happened earlier in the day, prompting authorities to open a judicial inquiry under the supervision of the public prosecutor. Investigators are now trying to piece together how the shipment moved, who is behind it, and whether it ties into a larger trafficking network.

Details remain scant for now, but the international route and the concealment method point to an organized operation that likely stretches beyond Morocco.

Police in Tangier say the investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on mapping out any cross-border links tied to the case.

This seizure is part of ongoing efforts by Moroccan security services to step up operations against drug trafficking, especially through key transit hubs like Tanger Med, where global shipping routes intersect.
