Rabat – Mohamed Al-Deayea, Al Hilal’s legendary goalkeeper, publicly declared that Moroccan star Yassine Bounou is the greatest goalkeeper in the club’s history, surpassing even his own legacy.
On Monday, Al Deayea shared a video on X highlighting Al Hilal’s King’s Cup triumph over Al-Nassr, a final that also featured Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Saudi international used the clip to praise Bounou’s decisive penalty shootout heroics, writing: “Bono is the best goalkeeper in Al Hilal’s history.”
Bounou joined Al Hilal in the summer of 2023 following his historical performance with the Moroccan national team at the 2022 World Cup, bringing immediate stability and confidence to the Saudi club.
Since joining, the Moroccan keeper has built an impressive record, winning three major trophies, including the Saudi Pro League, the King’s Cup, and the Saudi Super Cup.
He was also named CAF Goalkeeper of the Year in 2025 for the second time, thanks to his outstanding performances both with the club and Morocco, as well as the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where he was named Man of the Match against Salzburg.
Al Deayea’s statement sparked conversation among fans online.
“Honestly Bounou is one of the best goalkeepers in the Saudi league and even in the Middle East. Any penalty given against Al Hilal, I wouldn’t be surprised if he saves it… The guy is a real guardian, and his technique in penalties is truly historic,” one fan commented on the post.
Another one added: “If Bounou continues to shine and wins one or two titles, he’ll undoubtedly be an important and historic player for Al Hilal. But Mohammed Al-Deayea is one of those who built the club’s legacy and brought dozens of trophies.”
Al Deayea’s words carry weight as he is one of the greatest goalkeepers in Saudi and Asian football. His praise for Bounou is a strong sign of how much impact the Moroccan keeper has at Al Hilal.
