Spain Hails Strong Security Ties With Morocco’s DGST

Casablanca – Spain’s National Police said today that its cooperation with Morocco’s DGST remains strong, describing the relationship as based on trust and constant information sharing.

In a statement released in Madrid, the police said this coordination has become central to joint counterterrorism efforts between the two countries. Authorities say it has helped stop serious threats to national security on both sides of the Mediterranean.

The partnership has been active for years. Since 2014, Moroccan and Spanish security services have carried out more than 30 joint operations. These operations led to the arrest of 150 people linked to terrorist activities, including 83 detained in Spain.

Officials also pointed to a key moment in this cooperation. On March 14, 2014, both countries carried out Operation Azteca, a joint action that dismantled a major network involved in recruiting and sending fighters to Syria and the Sahel. Eight suspects of different nationalities were arrested during that operation.

Spanish police described the collaboration as a strategic alliance that continues to rely on close coordination between the two services.
