Rabat – Tanger Med port recorded significant growth across most of its sectors in 2025, underlining its role as a central player in Morocco’s trade and logistics.
The port’s four container terminals processed over 11.1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), an 8.4% increase from the previous year.
The Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) attributed this rise to the opening of the new extension at the TC4 terminal, operated by APM Terminals, which added crucial capacity to the complex.
Truck traffic also grew, reaching 535,203 TIR trucks, up 3.6%, largely driven by exports of industrial goods (+4.8%) and agri-food products (+4.3%). These figures show Tanger Med’s strategic role in supporting national export flows.
Passenger traffic showed steady improvement, with 3.22 million travelers and 895,341 vehicles passing through the port, representing increases of 5.7% and 5%, respectively.
The port managed the Marhaba summer campaign smoothly, applying a fixed-date ticket system introduced in 2025. TMPA noted that this measure helped align passenger numbers with fleet capacity and ensured faster, more orderly crossings.
Solid bulk cargo declined 11% to 522,493 tons, mainly due to a shift in cereal imports. Liquid bulk performed strongly, however, rising 13% to 8.64 million tons, reflecting steady demand in energy and industrial sectors.
Vehicle terminals handled 526,862 units, a 12% decrease from 2024. The total included 327,569 exports from Renault’s Melloussa and SOMACA plants, 126,874 from Stellantis Kenitra, and 39,751 transshipment vehicles.
TMPA explained that the drop reflected adjustments in production and changes in global automotive market flows.
Overall, Tanger Med processed 161 million tons of goods, a 13.3% increase over 2024, while total ship calls reached 16,686, down 4.5% due to the replacement of smaller RoPax vessels with larger ships capable of carrying more passengers and cargo.
The port also welcomed 1,319 mega-ships over 290 meters, 8.4% more than in 2024, benefiting from improved scheduling and operational management.
TMPA emphasized that these results reflect the efficiency of the port’s teams and infrastructure, consolidating Tanger Med’s position as a leading hub for Mediterranean and African trade and a vital gateway for Morocco’s logistics chains.
