Rabat – The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology has warned that the country will face unstable weather starting Friday and continuing through the weekend.

The weather service said that rainfall will continue in several regions and may sometimes appear as locally strong thunderstorms, especially in northern and central Morocco.

Snowfall is expected over the High and Middle Atlas, the Rif Mountains, and the eastern regions, while temperatures will remain relatively cold, particularly in mountainous areas, inland regions, and high plains.

Winds are expected to be strong, mainly along the central and southern coasts, southern provinces, and the Atlas Mountains. A noticeable drop in daytime temperatures is also forecasted, especially over the weekend.

The weather will be relatively cold over the Atlas, Rif, southeast regions, and high plains on Thursday. Rain is expected mainly in Tangier, Loukkos, Gharb, and Rif regions, with occasional showers in the northern and central Atlantic plains, Middle Atlas, and along the Mediterranean coast.

Local fog and low clouds may appear during the night along the central coasts, and light snow could occur over the Middle Atlas. Winds will be relatively strong, particularly on the southern coasts, with moderately rough to rough seas.

Weather disturbances are expected to intensify by Friday as the low-pressure system deepens. Rain and thunderstorms are likely in the Rif, Tangier, Loukkos, Mediterranean coast, Saiss, High and Middle Atlas, their western plains, and the northern Atlantic plains north of Essaouira.

Snowfall could be significant over the Rif and Atlas Mountains from 1,300 meters, and over high plains from 1,600 meters. Winds will be strong, and local dust may appear in southern and elevated areas.

The unstable conditions are expected to continue on Saturday and into Sunday, affecting northern, central, and eastern regions, including the Atlas and Rif Mountains, high plains, and southern provinces. Temperatures will drop further before gradually rising at the start of next week.

The weather authority urged people to be cautious during thunderstorms, avoid risky areas such as river valleys and slopes, and take care in the Atlas and Rif Mountains because of snow and cold.
