Cameroon Commends Morocco’s Hosting of AFCON

Rabat – The Cameroon Football Federation has expressed deep appreciation to its Moroccan counterpart for the outstanding organization and hospitality shown during AFCON 2025.

“The hospitality shown in all the places we visited reflects the remarkable preparatory work carried out by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation,” President of Cameroon FA Samuel Eto’o said in his letter.

Cameroon’s journey in the AFCON came to an end on Friday after their defeat to Morocco’s national team 2-0.

Following their exit, the Cameroonian federation extended its “respectful greetings and our sporting congratulations, in a spirit of fair play and mutual consideration.”

The letter also expressed  Cameroon’s “deep gratitude” for the “exemplary quality” of the organization shown throughout the competition.

Cameroon extended its best wishes to the Atlas Lions in their journey through the remainder of the competition, thanking Morocco’s federation for “the strength of our fraternal ties.”

The spirit of sportsmanship, however, has not been displayed by all teams and delegations.

The Algerian squad and delegation were seen engaging in heated discussions not only with their opponent in the game, but also with the match officials following their exit from the competition after a defeat against Nigeria.

Algerian fans, football players, and delegation contested what they described as “poor refereeing decisions.”

Hafid Derradjji, an Algerian sports commentator known for his hostility towards Morocco, also sparked controversy with his remarks, which many found subjective and contentious.

During the match, Derradji predicted that Algeria would score first, while noting that the players looked fatigued after their previous game against DR Congo. He also commented that Nigeria’s coach appeared “as if he was certain of victory,” a description that surprised parts of the audience.
