Local authorities confirmed that intervention teams are on standby around the clock, particularly near flood-prone zones, waterways, and low-lying neighborhoods.
Equipment and emergency units have been mobilized to ensure swift action in the event of rising water levels or infrastructure disruptions.
The objective, officials stress, is to protect residents and avoid a repeat of recent tragedies.
Civil protection services, technical departments, and local administrations are working in close coordination to track rainfall patterns and assess risks in real time.
Continuous field surveillance has been reinforced, with rapid-response mechanisms in place should evacuations or emergency assistance become necessary.
A region still marked by recent tragedy
The current alert comes just weeks after Safi was struck by one of the deadliest flooding episodes in its recent history.
On December 14, torrential rains triggered violent flash floods across several areas of the province, resulting in at least 37 fatalities, according to official figures, and causing extensive damage to homes, roads, and public infrastructure.
The disaster exposed vulnerabilities in drainage systems and highlighted the dangers faced by residents living near wadis and informal housing zones. The scale of the losses prompted nationwide concern and renewed calls for stronger preventive measures.
To strengthen coordination and early warning capabilities, the Ministry of Interior has ordered the activation of regional and provincial vigilance committees.
These bodies bring together local authorities, civil protection units, technical services, and agencies responsible for water management and infrastructure.
Their mission is to ensure constant monitoring of river levels, rainfall accumulation, and vulnerable zones, while streamlining decision-making during emergencies.
Parallel to these efforts, a royally instructed emergency rehabilitation program is underway. The initiative includes direct financial aid for families who lost personal belongings, repairs to damaged housing, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of affected commercial premises.
Meteorological and hydrological monitoring teams have also been reinforced to anticipate future weather events and trigger rapid response protocols.
