Rabat – Morocco has exported at least 112,000 tons of avocados to international markets between September 2024 and August 2025, according to new data from EastFruit.
The agriculture-focused website detailed that the North African country has continued to boost its position in the global avocado market, emphasizing that the volume recorded in one year represents a “new all-time high.”
This means Morocco’s shipment doubled compared to the numbers achieved in the previous season
“Export revenues also surpassed $300 million for the first time,” the same source said.
Morocco’s avocado favorite markets include Spain, as the premier recipient of Moroccan produce. Avocados to Spaniards account for over 35% of total export.
France and the Netherlands are second and third on the list, followed by the UK and Germany.
EastFruit also highlighted other markets that increased their imports of Moroccan avocados, including Canada. Morocco shipped over 1,000 tons compared to fewer than 70 tons in previous years to Canada, EastFruit said, while citing other markets like Portugal, Belgium, and Switzerland.
Many critics have been shedding light on the increased exports of Moroccan produce, especially as the North African country has been dealing with severe drought in the previous seasons.
Morocco has long pledged bold measures to tackle recurring droughts, which have hit the North African country for more than six seasons.
Morocco has taken several measures to tackle the situation, including the cancellation of the Eid al-Adha sacrifice ritual as well as a ban on the slaughter of female sheep and goats to help increase the livestock population. Among other measures is the launch of nationwide campaigns promoting the rational use of water.
