Mohammedia – Lesieur Cristal has taken a new step in its energy transition strategy with the inauguration of a photovoltaic power plant dedicated to self-consumption at its industrial site in Aïn Harrouda.

The project, developed in partnership with Nareva Services, reflects the group’s growing commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of its industrial operations while strengthening the use of renewable energy in Morocco’s agri-food sector.

Installed on a 1.5-hectare site, the solar plant has a capacity of 2 megawatt-peak (MWp) and is equipped with 3,254 photovoltaic modules.

Once fully operational, it is expected to generate clean electricity directly on site, allowing the factory to cut its annual energy consumption by around 12%.

According to the companies involved, the installation will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,400 tonnes per year, an environmental gain comparable to planting nearly 90,000 trees annually.

This new facility fits into a broader decarbonation roadmap launched by Lesieur Cristal in 2020, which targets a 65% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.

Beyond solar power, the group has already implemented several measures to improve energy efficiency across its industrial footprint, including the modernization of packaging lines, the transition from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and the installation of a 15-ton-per-hour biomass boiler that enables the use of fully renewable thermal energy.

The Aïn Harrouda plant now serves as a pilot site for decarbonation within Morocco’s agri-food industry, combining environmental performance with operational efficiency.

For Lesieur Cristal, the objective is to pursue a structured and continuous optimization of its industrial processes, ensuring that sustainability remains aligned with competitiveness.

Speaking at the inauguration, the group’s industrial operations director described the project as a concrete expression of Lesieur Cristal’s long-term vision, one that seeks to reconcile environmental responsibility with industrial performance while contributing to the country’s national energy transition.

From the developer’s side, the management of Nareva Services highlighted the use of a latest-generation solar solution designed to deliver reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible energy.

By commissioning this solar plant, Lesieur Cristal also reinforces the values underpinning its corporate purpose, “Servir la Terre,” carried alongside its reference shareholder, Avril.

The initiative underscores the group’s intention to continue investing in concrete actions that support Morocco’s goals of sustainable development, energy sovereignty and a greener industrial future.
