Rabat – Rabat is gearing up to host the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tonight as Morocco takes on Comoros at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The tournament, which will run until January 18, promises to be a major sporting spectacle for fans across the continent.
The opening match kicks today off at 8:00 p.m. local time (GMT+1), following the opening ceremony scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Stadium gates will open at 2:00 p.m., giving supporters plenty of time to arrive and soak in the pre-match atmosphere.
However, football fans should brace for less-than-ideal weather conditions. Morocco is currently experiencing a period of meteorological instability, with snowfall in certain regions and heavy rain and strong winds in others.
According to the General Directorate of Meteorology’s (DGM) “Match Weather” service, Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium is expected to receive 15 to 20 millimeters of rain during the match, with temperatures hovering around 14°C.
Winds from the southwest are predicted to reach 25 km/h, adding an extra layer of challenge for both players and spectators.
The DGM service provides up-to-date, location-specific forecasts for all stadiums hosting AFCON 2025 matches, helping fans plan ahead for each fixture.
