Keller, Weaver each get 2/$22M, per reports

MLB Rumors: Luke Weaver and the New York Mets, and Brad Keller and the Philadelphia Phillies, have agreed to free agent deals, per multiple reports. Weirdly, Weaver and Keller are each reportedly getting two year, $22 million deals — the same amount that it was reported yesterday that the San Francisco Giants and Adrian Houser had agreed upon.

Keller, a 30 year old righthander, was a Rule 5 selection back in the 2017-18 offseason who stuck on the roster of the Kansas City Royals all of 2018. Keller had a successful 2018 season, putting up a 4.2 bWAR while splitting the year between the rotation and the bullpen, and then had a 3.0 bWAR campaign as a starter in 2019. After an excellent 2020 season, however, things went south for Keller, and he became a free agent after the 2023 season.

Keller started 2024 with the Chicago White Sox, was released in May, signed with Boston, was released in August, re-signed with Boston the next day, and then was released again soon thereafter. The Chicago Cubs brought him in in 2025, and he had an excellent season out of the bullpen, putting up a 2.07 ERA in 68 appearances. The Phillies are reportedly planning on using him as a reliever as well.

Weaver, a 32 year old righthander, spent most of his career as a journeyman replacement level guy, first reaching the majors in 2016, and playing for six different organizations through 2023. He signed as a free agent with the New York Yankees prior to the 2024 season and had success as a reliever, putting up a 3.21 ERA and 3.58 FIP in 148 innings over 126 games.
