Rabat-Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was one of the standout players of AFCON 2025, earning the title of Best Goalkeeper of the tournament after a series of great performances.

Yassine Bounou was the rock of Morocco’s team at AFCON 2025. Calm, commanding, and full of energy, he made sure the Atlas Lions’ defense stayed solid from the first game to the final. Across six matches, he conceded just one goal and kept five clean sheets, proving why he’s one of Africa’s top goalkeepers.

His heroics in the semi-final against Nigeria were unforgettable. The game was a tense 0-0 for 120 minutes, and then came the penalty shootout. Bounou was sensational. He stopped the first attempt from Samuel Chukwueze and then pulled off an incredible, almost impossible save with his outstretched right hand to deny Bruno Onyemaechi. That save sent Morocco through to the final.

Even in the final against Senegal, where Morocco eventually lost 1-0 in extra time, Bounou was a constant presence, making crucial saves and keeping his team in the game. His leadership on the pitch and his strength in high-pressure moments showed why he deserved to be named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

Bounou’s performances reminded everyone why he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Even in defeat, he was a hero. His Golden Glove award is a fitting recognition of his consistency, bravery, and match-winning saves. He was Morocco’s hero between the posts.
