Yamal Faces Racist Abuse Again in Spain

Rabat – Lamine Yamal faced racist abuse again during yesterday’s Barcelona 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in La Liga, adding another troubling episode to a pattern that Spanish football still struggles to control.

A video from the stands during the match shows fans shouting racist slurs at the 18-year-old while he prepared to take a corner. In the clip, one supporter told him to “go back to Morocco.”

The incident comes only days after Yamal spoke out against anti-Muslim chants heard during Spain’s friendly against Egypt.

At the time, he said that using religion to insult others makes fans appear “ignorant and racist.” That message now carries more weight, as he seems to have become a target himself at the club level.

    Another incident around Yamal

Yamal played a key role in Barcelona’s win, helping his team move closer to the league title.

On the pitch, he continues to perform at a high level. Off it, however, he faces the same issue that has troubled other players in Spain.

This is not a new problem. Vinicius Junior has dealt with repeated racist abuse in recent seasons, and those incidents have already sparked debates across Spanish football.

Moroccan defender Omar El Hilali also reported racist insults recently, showing the issue goes beyond one player or one stadium.

    Now Yamal joins that list.

The incident shows it is not just about one fan or one match. It points to a recurring pattern that continues despite public statements, investigations, and promises to act. Each new case shows that the problem remains unresolved.

After the final whistle, cameras showed Yamal leaving the pitch visibly upset. He briefly crossed paths with coach Hansi Flick but chose not to engage and continued toward the dressing room.

Although there is no confirmed link between his reaction and what happened in the stands, many interpreted his behavior as a sign that he was upset by the incident.

These incidents point in the same direction. Spanish football is still failing to address a longstanding problem.
