Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor sets record on Sunday

Jonathan Taylor just added yet another accolade to his long resume as one of the best players in Wisconsin football history.

With a three-touchdown performance on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, Taylor passed Melvin Gordon for the most rush touchdowns by a former Badger in NFL history. According to NFL researcher Henry Gold, the top of the leaderboard now reads Taylor (57), Gordon (56) and Alan Ameche (40). That trio bests the other notable former Badgers to play the position in the NFL, including Ron Dayne (28) and James White (25).

Taylor is up to 6,493 rushing yards, 57 rushing touchdowns, 1,224 receiving yards and six receiving scores, now just starting his sixth season in the league. Minus injury-plagued seasons in 2022 and 2023, the former Badger has been one of the NFL’s best running backs since his rookie year in 2020.

His touchdown total should only balloon in the coming years. There’s a good chance Taylor’s tally is considered unreachable once Braelon Allen or another young talent nears White’s 25 rushing scores.
