Walid Regragui Bids Farewell as Morocco National Team Head Coach

Walid Regragui shared a heartfelt video on social media, recapping his tenure as head of Morocco’s national team, in what appears to be his farewell message.

His post, captioned “Dima Maghreb 🇲🇦 Allah – Homeland – The King ❤️ Thank you 🙏”, comes after an unprecedented period of success for the team.

Regragui’s leadership marked a historic chapter in Moroccan football, achieving milestones that elevated the national team’s status on the global stage.

Walid Regragui
took charge of Morocco’s national team on August 31, 2022, just three months before the World Cup in Qatar. He replaced Vahid Halilhodzic and signed a contract through the next World Cup cycle.

During the 2022 World Cup, Regragui guided Morocco to the semi-finals, marking the first time an African and Arab team had ever reached that stage. The historic run boosted Morocco’s global reputation, establishing the Atlas Lions as one of the most respected national teams beyond Europe and South America.

Since then, his record has been impressive: 35 wins, 9 draws, and 5 losses, helping Morocco climb to 8th in the FIFA rankings, the highest position ever achieved by an African nation. This unprecedented success naturally heightened expectations, particularly when Morocco hosted the African Cup of Nations.
