Rabat– South Africa’s national team coach, Hugo Broos, emphasized on Thursday that his squad is preparing for their second group stage match against Egypt by focusing on the team as a whole rather than individual stars.

The match, part of Group B in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Morocco, is set for Friday at the Grand Stade d’Agadir.

Despite acknowledging Egypt’s quality and history, Broos avoided centering his strategy on star players such as Mohamed Salah. “It would be a mistake to focus on just one player. The collective effort is what matters,” he stressed.

“We are not preparing for a match against one player, but against Egypt,” Broos stated during his pre-match press conference, highlighting a collective approach against the seven-time continental champions.

The Belgian coach praised South Africa’s strong start in the tournament, noting the importance of securing three points in their opening game. “It was crucial to win the first match to approach the game against Egypt without pressure,” he said.

Forward Lyle Foster, speaking alongside the coach, highlighted the positive atmosphere within the South African squad. “The mood is very good. Winning the first match has definitely boosted our confidence,” Foster remarked.

The upcoming South Africa vs Egypt match promises a high-stakes showdown as both teams aim to secure their positions in Group B of CAN Morocco 2025.
