Rabat – Algerian authorities remain silent amid reports, weeping social media and news on two suicide attacks in Blida today.

Reports quoted eyewitnesses who said two individuals were wearing explosive belts and tried to target separate locations.

Le Point said police officers opened fire on the two attackers before they could reach their targets.

“They then detonated their explosives,” Le Point added.

Other reports said the first explosion targeted a security facility in Blida, with the fatal attack causing the deaths of two police officers.

Reports also alleged that a second suicide bombing affected a food processing facility in the same province.

The casualties and death toll have not yet been disclosed by official media.

The resorts came as Algeria welcomed Pope Leo XIV on his first visit to the country.

The papal visit is part of his 11-day tour in four African countries, including Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.

Reports said the pope is in Algeria to promote Christian-Muslim coexistence at a time of global conflict marred by the ongoing war in the Middle East.

“God desires peace for every nation, a peace that is not merely an absence of conflict but one that is an expression of justice and dignity,” he said.

Leo also met with high-level officials, including President Abdelmajid Tebboune.

“Today, this is more urgent than ever in the face of continuous violations of international law and neocolonial tendencies,” he said.
