Rabat – Football fans on Thursday resorted to vandalism and violence during a Botola game between Raja CA and AS FAR at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Videos circulating on social media show supporters engaging in acts of vandalism and using violence against security services, as well as confrontations between rival fan groups.

The situation sparked outrage on social media, with citizens calling for strict regulations to end repeated acts of violence in stadiums.

The prosecutor in Rabat ordered 136 people to be placed in custody following the riots.

The game, part of the Moroccan professional league, featured two giants in the Botola. AS FAR secured a 2-1 victory over Raja Casablanca.

However, tensions between supporters flared following the league game.

Moroccan authorities take swift measures to tackle similar incidents, including vandalism targeting property in the stadiums.

Videos also help authorities identify individuals in the disturbances.

Moroccan police frequently arrest people involved in vandalism and hooliganism.

One of the latest infamous incidents took place during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final at the same venue on January 18.

The episode saw marked Senegalese fans engaged in hooliganism after their team’s walk-off following a legitimate penalty awarded to Morocco.

Police arrested 18 Senegalese fans who appeared in videos showing clashes with security guards and damaging the stadium’s property.

A court initially sentenced the fans to between one and three years’ imprisonment, a ruling later upheld on appeal.
