Rabat – Australia has announced the start of Ramadan 2026, with the holy month set to begin on February 19.
The announcement was made official by the Australian Fatwa Council following consultations led by Grand Mufti Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohamad.
The sacred month is expected to conclude around March 20, marking the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
Ramadan is regarded as the holiest month in Islam, extending beyond fasting to emphasize spiritual purification, self-discipline, and increased devotion.
From dawn until sunset, Muslims abstain from food and drink, while dedicating more time to prayer, reflection, and acts of charity.
Throughout the month, mosques and community centers across Australia host nightly Taraweeh prayers, as well as community iftars that bring people together in a spirit of unity.
Charitable initiatives also play a central role, reinforcing the values of compassion and generosity that define Ramadan.
