Rabat – During Walid Regragui’s honoring ceremony at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Sale, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation confirmed his departure and introduced Mohamed Ouahbi as the new head coach.

In his speech, Lekjaa hailed Regragui’s achievements, especially Morocco’s run to the semi‑finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He said that the milestone will remain in history and be remembered with pride by future generations.

He described it as a turning point that moved Morocco beyond the old idea of “participation for participation,” creating new ambition and confidence across the country.

Lekjaa also pointed to other successes that followed, including Morocco’s Arab Cup win and the youth team’s Africa Cup triumph, as proof of the progress sparked by Regragui’s leadership.

He stressed that the honoring ceremony should not only celebrate the past but also inspire the future, keeping the national team at the level expected by King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people.

The federation president explained that the current moment is one of reflection and evaluation. After AFCON, the FRMF carried out a detailed review of all aspects of the team’s performance, with Regragui himself taking part in the process.

Lekjaa made clear that Morocco is not starting from scratch but continuing on the same path with careful planning to achieve even better results in upcoming competitions.

The evening closed with Regragui’s farewell and the confirmation of Ouahbi as his successor, signaling both respect for what was achieved and determination to build on it as Morocco prepares for the World Cup.
