ONCF Launches 50% Reduction for Passengers With Disabilities

Rabat – Morocco’s National Railways Office (ONCF) has rolled out a new discount card that allows passengers with disabilities to travel by train at reduced fares.

According to an announcement from the State Secretariat for Social Inclusion, the card offers a 50% reduction on train tickets for persons in situations of disability. Companions of visually impaired passengers also qualify for the same reduction.

The measure stems from a cooperation agreement concluded earlier between ONCF and public institutions in charge of social inclusion and family affairs.

Authorities reported strong early interest in the program. More than 5,000 applications have already reached the State Secretariat through the digital “IDMAJ” platform.

Thousands of cards have since been processed and printed, while a separate batch has been distributed to Entraide Nationale centers across several provinces to ensure direct access for beneficiaries who rely on local support services.

Officials encouraged eligible passengers to submit their applications through the dedicated online portal, which centralizes requests and facilitates follow-up.

The initiative reflects ongoing public efforts to improve access to transport and essential services for persons with disabilities.

It also aligns with national policies that seek greater equity and stronger participation in social life for all citizens.

The measure fits within Morocco’s broader efforts to improve access to public services for persons with disabilities, particularly in transport and mobility.

While recent policies signal growing institutional awareness, many challenges remain at the level of infrastructure, service design, and everyday accessibility.

Advocates and observers often note that progress continues to depend on the translation of national frameworks into concrete, consistent measures that reach beneficiaries across regions.
