New Fiber Optic Cable Factory in Berrechid to Create 165 Jobs with MAD 200 Million Investment

Agadir – FBR Cables officially inaugurated a new industrial unit in Berrechid dedicated to the production of fiber optic and network cables on Monday, February 23. The ceremony took place in the presence of Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade.

The project represents a total investment of MAD 200 million ($21.86 million) and is expected to create 165 direct jobs. Built on a site spanning approximately 15,000 square meters, the new facility consolidates all of the company’s operations into a single industrial platform.

With this expansion, annual production capacity rises to 70,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables, positioning the company to meet nearly 60% of domestic demand, currently estimated between 120,000 and 130,000 kilometers per year.

This launch is a fully Moroccan-owned fiber optic production unit, presenting a major step forward for the country’s industrial ecosystem. It comes about from royal directives in reinforcing Morocco’s industrial and technological sovereignty.

The facility effectively doubles national production capacity in this segment, strengthens the “Made in Morocco” label, and enhances the country’s positioning as a regional export hub toward African markets.

It will also improve the infrastructure of internet connectivity for households and businesses across Morocco. By increasing domestic production capacity, the project contributes directly to the modernization and expansion of the country’s digital infrastructure.

The factory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and was developed entirely through Moroccan capital and expertise. It manufactures not only optical fiber cables but also high-performance network cables in categories 6, 7, and 8, further strengthening Morocco’s capabilities in advanced telecommunications components.

Founded in 1991 in Bouskoura, FBR Cables specializes in manufacturing a wide range of cable solutions designed for different installation environments, including outdoor systems, aerial deployment, micro-cables, and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) drop cables.

The company supplies a substantial share of Morocco’s telecommunications operators, including Orange Maroc, INWI, and Maroc Telecom.

In addition to its 124 direct employees, the company supports more than 500 indirect jobs through its network of local suppliers and partners. FBR Cables also has technology transfer initiatives and training programs they organize in collaboration with stakeholders in the telecommunications sector, contributing to national skills development.
