Morocco’s National Teacher Forum Opens in Rabat, Spotlighting Training and Practice

Fez — Morocco’s second “National Teacher Forum” opened today in Rabat at the OLM Souissi space, bringing together thousands of teachers and education stakeholders from across the kingdom, as well as experts from Morocco and abroad.

Held under the theme “The Teacher at the Heart of Educational Transformation,” the forum runs today and tomorrow. Organizers project around 3,500 participants per day.

The event is organized by the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, in partnership with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Promotion of Social Works of Education-Training, according to official event materials.

    Practice, not speeches

The forum’s agenda blends conferences and roundtables with hands-on sessions designed to translate policy goals into classroom tools.

Organizers say the work of this edition is structured around four themes: training for the teaching profession, thriving in professional practice, adopting effective classroom practices, and understanding students.

Alongside plenaries, the program includes participatory workshops and experience-sharing sessions, ranging from activities focused on heritage and creativity to sessions on public speaking and debate.

Theater training as a teacher-to-teacher multiplier

Among the workshops drawing attention today was a session led by Adil Madih, director of the International Festival of Theater in Casablanca and the National Festival of School Theater, as well as a member of the Foundation of Living Arts in Casablanca.

Madih told Morocco World News (MWN) that his workshop was built around explaining “how we organized this festival” and “what are the goals of the festival,” with a strong emphasis on training. “It’s about giving courses to teachers about theatre,” he said, noting that the program invites well-known Moroccan theatre artists to coach teachers so they can pass those methods on to students preparing to participate.

The school theatre festival is heading into its fourth edition with a theme focused on how children imagine their future “in terms of technology” and “artificial intelligence,” Madih argued.

The session ended with acting exercises, and that participants wanted more time for practice, he told MWN, stressing: “They were eager that the acting exercises we were doing in the last part of the workshop could be longer.”

A national meet-up for sharing classroom realities

Abdelaziz Lahmar, provincial director of Moulay Yacoub at the Regional Academy for Education and Training in Fes-Meknes, described the forum as a rare chance for educators to meet at scale.

“We are here today at the Teacher Forum, the second version of the Teacher Forum organized by the Minister of Education in Morocco,” Lahmar told Morocco World News. He called it “a great opportunity for all Moroccan teachers and educational stakeholders to be together… to share their best practices,” adding that the event helps participants “meet, to share and to discover other opportunities.”

Beyond the workshop rooms, the forum is also positioned as part of Morocco’s broader push to strengthen the teaching profession and improve learning outcomes, with officials framing educators as central actors in education reform.
