Morocco’s FIMASUCRE Appoints Imad Ghammad President as Hassan Mounir Steps Down

Rabat – Morocco’s sugar industry body, FIMASUCRE, announced a change in leadership following a board meeting held in Rabat this Monday, during which members also reviewed the progress of the ongoing sugar campaign.

The meeting, chaired by Hassan Mounir, focused on the current agricultural season, which has been positively affected by heavy rainfall recorded across several sugar-producing regions.

According to the board, the recent precipitation significantly improved the country’s water conditions, creating a favorable environment for the current agricultural campaign.

These conditions are expected to support stable production and strengthen prospects for the expansion of land dedicated to sugar crops in the future.

During the session, the board formally acknowledged Hassan Mounir’s decision to step down from his role as president of FIMASUCRE. Members paid tribute to his tenure, highlighting his central role in advancing Morocco’s sugar interprofessional sector.

Mounir previously held several senior positions within the industry, including Deputy Chief Executive of sugar subsidiaries and later Chief Executive Officer of Cosumar.

Throughout his career, he oversaw major strategic shifts in upstream agricultural operations, particularly through the adoption of new technologies, the digitalization of the sugar value chain, and the modernization and restructuring of industrial facilities.

These initiatives contributed to long-term improvements in agricultural performance, higher farmer incomes, and greater resilience across the national sugar sector.

Board members described his leadership as a key factor in strengthening the sector’s ability to adapt to changing economic and environmental conditions.

Following his departure, the board elected Imad Ghammad as the new president of FIMASUCRE. Similar to Mounir’s career path, Ghammad currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Cosumar Group and brings extensive experience in the sugar industry.

His professional background includes the design and implementation of programs aimed at improving crop yields, optimizing farming practices, and reinforcing farmer support and advisory systems.

Over the years, Ghammad has also been involved in integrating innovative agricultural solutions and management tools to enhance resource efficiency and competitiveness within the sugar sector.

His work has focused on improving technical pathways for farmers while promoting a performance-driven approach aligned with long-term sustainability objectives.

With this appointment, FIMASUCRE’s board reiterated its commitment to continuing efforts to build a strong, competitive, and sustainable sugar sector.

The federation emphasized its intention to further support farmers and contribute to Morocco’s food sovereignty, while maintaining a development model based on shared performance across the entire sugar value chain.
