Morocco’s Electricity Production Climbs 5.8% by November 2025

Rabat – National electricity production in Morocco grew by 5.8% during the first eleven months of 2025, up from 2.4% over the same period last year, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).

The increase was driven by strong performance in both the private electricity sector, which rose by 7.5%, and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), which recorded a 6% growth, the DEPF noted in its January 2026 economic outlook.

Morocco’s electricity trade also saw notable shifts. Imports surged by 26.4% by the end of November 2025, following a 31.5% increase in the previous year. Conversely, electricity exports dropped sharply by 31.4%, reflecting higher domestic energy demand, as net electricity consumption rose by 7.4%.

The expansion in production builds on Morocco’s long-term energy strategy. In November 2025, the government signed a landmark green energy agreement in Rabat to accelerate the provision of 5 gigawatts of renewable electricity to Moroccan industry by 2030.

The convention brought together the government, ONEE, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), and the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Holdings (ANGSPE).

Officials from both sides, including the Minister of Economy and Finance, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and the Deputy Minister in charge of Budget, as well as the heads of ONEE, MASEN, and ANGSPE, signed the agreement.
