Morocco Officially Set to Host FIFA’s 2027 Congress

Rabat – Morocco has been chosen to host the 77th FIFA Congress on March 18, 2027. FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared the news during this year’s meeting in Vancouver, Canada.

This selection marks another major win for Morocco as it grows into a world leader in football. Hosting the elective congress in Africa for the second consecutive time after Kigali, Rwanda in 2023, shows the strong partnership between FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Congress will bring together leaders from 211 countries in Morocco, further cementing the country’s reputation for hosting high-level international sporting and diplomatic events. It also reflects the synergy between its cultural heritage and its modernized stadium and hospitality networks.

The 2027 meeting is especially important because it is an elective congress, where members will vote on the next FIFA president, finalize   plans for the new, expanded World Cup format, and decide how to share funding with smaller football nations.

Infantino is set to stand for another term, having led the football governing body since 2016, after signalling his intention to run for re-election for the 2027–2031 mandate.

Morocco has already secured its spot as a co-host for the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, building on its successful hosting of the CAF Excellence Center initiatives and its historic semi-final run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup
