Morocco Make Early Change as Saïss Is Forced Off Against Comoros

Rabat – Morocco got off to a slow start in their AFCON 2025 opener against Comoros, ranked 108th in the FIFA standings, but show signs of picking up momentum as the first half goes on.

The Atlas Lions had a golden chance in the 10th minute when a penalty was awarded, but Soufiane Rahimi missed with Yannick Pandor made a superb save, diving to the middle of the goal, keeping the score at 0-0.

Morocco’s challenges continued when Romain Saïss had to leave the pitch due to injury, with Jawad El Yamiq coming on as the first substitution. Despite the early disruption, Morocco began to apply more pressure, creating opportunities and probing Comoros’ disciplined defense.

Although they dominated possession and pushed forward, Morocco still struggled to convert opportunities into goals before the break, as Comoros remained organized and compact, frustrating the hosts in the beginning of the first half.
