Morocco Launches New 25% Increase in Fuel Support Professional

Rabat — The Moroccan government has announced a new round of financial support for road transport professionals, increasing the value of the subsidy by 25 percent amid continued pressure from rising fuel prices.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, the decision comes in response to ongoing market conditions marked by elevated fuel costs, with the new support package designed to ease the burden on transport operators and maintain stability in logistics and service prices.

The ministry explained that the additional subsidy represents an extra payment beyond the previous support level, calculated based on fuel consumption recorded between 16 and 30 April 2026.

Registration for the new support phase will open on Wednesday, 22 April, through the same dedicated online platform used in earlier rounds.

The announcement follows a series of government measures aimed at cushioning the transport sector from global energy fluctuations. In March, government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said that 67,951 applications covering 95,660 vehicles had already been submitted by 25 March under an exceptional support scheme for transport professionals.

As a net importer of energy, Morocco remains directly exposed to international price swings. Road transport operators, in particular, have been among the most affected, given their dependence on diesel and continuous exposure to fluctuating fuel costs.

In recent weeks, fuel prices in Morocco have reflected global trends, with periodic increases affecting freight, passenger transport, and logistics services.

Authorities have linked the sustained pressure on fuel prices to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, while stressing that the digitized support system has helped ensure efficient delivery of aid and contributed to stabilizing transport-related costs across the country.

A new increase in diesel prices recorded on Thursday morning at several fuel stations has reignited public debate and criticism of government policies on energy pricing, with consumers and professionals warning of rising pressure on household budgets and transport costs.

According to sector sources, fuel distributors informed stations of the adjustment late Wednesday evening. The price hike is being implemented gradually across different cities and service stations during the following hours.

The increase varies depending on the operator, reaching up to one dirham per litre in some stations, pushing the price of diesel from 14.50 to 15.50 dirhams per litre. Other stations applied a smaller increase of around 95 centimes, according to industry professionals. Petrol prices remained unchanged for the moment, though the gap between diesel and gasoline has narrowed significantly.
