Rabat–  Morocco has inaugurated the AMCI Fan Zone in Rabat, a dedicated space for students and international scholarship recipients, as part of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) celebrations. The opening ceremony was attended by Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) President Fouzi Lekjaa, and Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Located at the Cité Universitaire Internationale in Rabat under the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), the Fan Zone hosts students from more than 80 nationalities, including representatives from 47 African countries, making it one of the most culturally diverse hubs on the continent.

The inauguration ceremony brought together prominent figures, including the dean of African ambassadors in Morocco, Mouhamadou Youssifou, other African ambassadors accredited to Rabat, CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba, and AMCI Director-General Mohamed Methqal. Students and scholarship recipients attended in large numbers, celebrating an event centered on fraternity, cultural exchange, and the unifying power of sport.

Designed to put youth at the heart of the continent’s biggest football festival, the AMCI Fan Zone combines sport, arts, and culture to foster integration, interaction, and shared experiences. The initiative reflects Morocco’s commitment to the vision of King Mohammed VI for an emerging and sustainable Africa, emphasizing solidarity, South-South cooperation, and the development of the African youth.

Spanning 5,000 square meters, the Fan Zone is expected to welcome around 50,000 visitors throughout AFCON 2025. Visitors will enjoy live broadcasts of all matches on giant screens, participate in student football tournaments, explore gaming and e-sports areas, attend eight days of artistic and cultural events, and engage in four thematic conferences.

Currently, roughly 20,000 African students from 47 countries are pursuing higher education in Morocco through the AMCI, underlining the Kingdom’s long-standing dedication to fostering inclusive and forward-looking South-South cooperation. The AMCI Fan Zone not only celebrates football but also reinforces Morocco’s role as a hub for cultural exchange and youth engagement in Africa.
