Morocco Joins Global Leaders to Shape AI Impact in New Delhi Summit

Agadir – Morocco is asserting its growing role in global digital governance through its participation in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, a major international gathering dedicated to the future of artificial intelligence and its societal impact.

The summit brings together world leaders, policymakers, technology executives, researchers, and innovators to discuss the global future of AI, in New Delhi from 16-20 February.

The Moroccan delegation is led by Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, and is accompanied by King Mohammed VI’s Ambassador to India, Mohamed Maliki.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is the first in the series of global AI summits to be hosted in the Global South. It is organized by the Government of India through its Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the IndiaAI Mission.

The summit with a new direction

Ahead of the summit, India’s Ambassador to Morocco, Sanjay Rana, emphasized the distinct character of this event compared with previous global AI summits in an exclusive interview with Morocco World News at the Indian Embassy in Rabat.

He stated that while earlier meetings in places like Bletchley Park, Seoul, Paris, and Kigali focused predominantly on regulation and governance, the India AI Impact Summit aims to shift the conversation toward practical, measurable results that improve everyday life, particularly in developing countries.

“In India, I think the focus is on impact, what impact AI can have on the lives of the people, how we can ensure that AI reaches everyone,” Rana told MWN.

The diplomat  further explained that the summit’s overarching goal is to move “from aspirations to impact,” with outcomes centered on “People, Planet, and Progress” a framing that aligns closely with Morocco’s own priorities for inclusive technological development.

The summit resonates with Morocco’s broader digital strategy, which emphasizes accessibility, ethical use, and equitable benefit.

India’s approach, as described by Rana, intentionally prioritizes affordability and accessibility, especially for countries in the Global South, rather than concentrating solely on regulatory frameworks. “Most of the people of the world live in the south, developing countries,” he noted, underlining the importance of designing AI systems that reach these populations.

Morocco’s participation places it at the center of multilateral discussions on artificial intelligence, alongside more than 100 national delegations, over 20 heads of state and government, and representatives from the United Nations and global tech sectors.
