Casablanca – Morocco has deployed a mobile consulate over the weekend in the city of Ibiza, located 79 kilometers from the Iberian Peninsula, providing proximity services and support to members of the Moroccan community established in Spain’s Balearic archipelago.

The Consulate General of Morocco in Palma de Mallorca said the initiative is part of its outreach policy for the benefit of the Moroccan community in Spain.

The choice of Ibiza to host this mobile consulate is driven by the significant presence of Moroccan nationals, one of the most dynamic communities in the Balearic Islands, contributing meaningfully to the social, economic, and cultural life of their host region while maintaining strong ties to their identity, the consulate added

A range of consular services were part of the campaign, including the issuance of biometric passports, electronic national identity cards, adoulary acts, and anthropometric records. Personalized assistance was also offered to community members on administrative, social, and notarial matters.

Many beneficiaries, including some who traveled from the neighboring island of Formentera, expressed their satisfaction with the initiative, which spared them the inconvenience of traveling during the week to Palma de Mallorca to complete administrative procedures.

Following the success of this operation, the Consulate General plans, as part of its annual program, to organize additional mobile consulates in other regions, with the aim of further strengthening services for Moroccan communities where they reside.

Moroccans, numbering over 1.1 million, remain Spain’s largest foreign community, with more than 862,000 holding valid residence permits and around 22% contributing to Social Security.

Their economic footprint is also visible in the housing market, where they account for 7.7% of foreign property purchases, ranking second only to British buyers, with over 5,100 transactions recorded in the second half of 2025.
