Casablanca – Morocco is preparing to host a new health-focused event under the GITEX umbrella, as attention grows around how African countries can build stronger, more independent healthcare systems. The first edition of GITEX Future Health Africa Morocco is set for May 4-6  in Casablanca.

The event will open with an Executive Summit on May 4, bringing together policymakers, health officials, tech leaders and investors. Participants will have a more direct conversation about African health systems setbacks. The conversations are expected to focus on reducing reliance on foreign aid, strengthening regulations and expanding universal health coverage while improving infrastructure.

The event is backed by Morocco’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection, along with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health and KAOUN International, which runs GITEX globally.

Health Minister Amine Tehraoui said Morocco wants a model where public institutions, industry and innovators work more closely, with a focus on practical results, especially when it comes to access to care. He pointed to digital tools and AI as part of this shift, but also stressed the need for solutions that actually fit the realities on the ground.

Among the expected speakers are former French health minister Agnès Buzyn, Huma co-founder Dan Vahdat and Jan Schwaab from GIZ. Vahdat said the mix of technology and long-term planning could help make healthcare more accessible and resilient across the continent.

The program will continue on May 5 and 6 with the Future Health Congress, which will look at how hospitals are evolving, especially with AI-driven diagnostics and new care models that move beyond traditional settings. There will also be discussions around patient experience and how to retain healthcare talent.

An exhibition space will also run alongside the forums, bringing together companies, investors and organizations working in health innovation. Organizers say the initiative is designed to help build health systems that are more accessible, resilient and less reliant on external support.
