Agadir – The Moroccan parliamentary delegation took part in the 24th Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE-PA), held on February 19 and 20 at the Hofburg Conference Center in Vienna.

Making up the Moroccan delegation were members from both parliamentary chambers, including representatives and Councillors from the National Rally of Independent, Authenticity and Modernity Party.

In a statement, the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Moroccan Parliament, said Morocco’s involvement in the session forms part of “the ongoing dynamic of the Kingdom’s parliamentary diplomacy, which aims to strengthen its presence in multilateral parliamentary fora and consolidate its active involvement in international debates on issues related to security, stability, and sustainable development.”

The Moroccan Parliament’s involvement also demonstrates its commitment to strengthening cooperation and political dialogue with its partners, especially in Europe, to promote shared interests and foster mutual understanding.

Morocco as ‘a reliable and stable partner’

The session brought together delegations from member states and partners, along with “experts, diplomatic representatives, and academics specializing in strategic issues related to the Organization’s agenda,” added the house’s statement.

During the proceedings, the four committees of the Parliamentary Assembly engaged in “in-depth discussions” on major international concerns, including “the promotion of global security and peace in the context of rapid geopolitical changes, in accordance with the Helsinki principles,” it detailed.

Participants also discussed mechanisms to safeguard electoral processes with integrity against hybrid threats and external interference, while addressing the increasing connections between geo-economics, technology, and security, and the challenges and opportunities these create in a fast-evolving global environment.

Alongside the committee work, the Moroccan delegation held high-level meetings with Hon. Pere Joan Pons, President of the OSCE-PA, and its Special Representative for Mediterranean Affairs, Pascal Allizard.

The statement concluded that these discussions praised Morocco as “a reliable and stable partner in the region,” with both sides agreeing on “the need to broaden the scope of bilateral cooperation to include new strategic issues, while valuing the Kingdom’s pivotal role as a genuine link between the Euro-Mediterranean and African spaces.”
