Moroccan Authorities Seize 19,100 Ecstasy Pills at Tanger Med Port

Casablanca – Moroccan police and customs officers at the Tanger Med port seized 19,100 ecstasy pills on Thursday, April 23, in an operation targeting international drug trafficking networks.

The shipment was intercepted during routine border checks on a utility vehicle with Moroccan license plates that had just arrived on a ferry from a European port. Authorities found the psychotropic substances carefully concealed inside ten boxes labeled as food products.

The driver, a 55-year-old Moroccan national, was arrested at the scene. He has been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. The inquiry is ongoing and aims to determine the circumstances of the case and identify any potential accomplices or connections.

The seizure comes amid a series of recent drug interceptions across the country involving both narcotics and psychotropic substances.

Earlier this month, police in Marrakech seized more than 17,500 psychotropic pills and arrested four suspects in coordinated operations across several neighborhoods. In another case reported in Tanger, authorities confiscated 33.4 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a container arriving from abroad. Separate police action in Marrakech on April 22 led to the arrest of a suspect who was found in possession of cocaine and ecstasy doses he had prepared for sale.

Moroccan security services have also reported previous seizures of ecstasy pills in the northern region, including thousands of tablets recovered during operations linked to trafficking activities.

Authorities say these operations form part of ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking and related criminal activity.
