Mohammed V Foundation Launches Operation

Rabat – The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has launched the “Grand Froid” operation, a nationwide humanitarian initiative aimed at providing urgent assistance to populations affected by the ongoing cold wave in several Moroccan provinces, following the instructions of King Mohammed VI.

The foundation announced that the operation will deploy substantial logistical and human resources, working in close coordination with the Ministry of Interior to address the immediate needs of the most vulnerable communities.

A total of 28 provinces experiencing significant drops in temperature, heavy rainfall, and snowfall will benefit from the initiative.

Around 73,000 households are expected to receive essential food supplies and blankets as part of the emergency support package.

The foundation noted that a comprehensive logistical framework will be mobilized in the affected areas.

Teams comprising the foundation staff, doctors, and social workers from the General Directorate of Social Services (DGSS) of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) will intervene on the ground, with support from local authorities, the FAR, and the Royal Gendarmerie.

Their efforts will prioritize reaching remote villages and high-altitude mountainous regions.

The “Grand Froid” operation shows Morocco’s commitment to rapid humanitarian response in the face of extreme weather, ensuring aid reaches those most at risk during the winter season.

This humanitarian initiative comes in the wake of an earlier statement from the Ministry of Interior, which had urged heightened preparedness to face the current winter conditions.

The call for action follows recent severe weather incidents and deaths in Safi, where heavy rains and cold temperatures caused disruptions and affected local communities.
