Rabat – The Ministry of Equipment and Water has urged all road users to exercise extreme caution and strictly follow traffic regulations from Thursday night through Monday, as several roads are expected to experience disruptions due to heavy rain and snowfall.

According to an alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), stormy rainfall between 20 and 100 mm is forecast across several provinces, while dense snowfalls of 5 to 50 cm are expected in areas above 1,200 meters, including the High and Middle Atlas, the Rif mountains, and the Haut Oriental region.

With the start of the school holidays coinciding with these conditions, the ministry advised drivers to postpone travel through affected areas unless absolutely necessary and to avoid driving at night.

Authorities emphasized the importance of preparing vehicles for winter conditions, including checking the battery, brakes, lighting, tire pressure, windshield wipers, washer fluid, fuel levels, and heating systems. Drivers were also warned to be cautious in low-lying areas and at river crossings that may be submerged during heavy rainfall.

The ministry advised against attempting to cross submersible roads during floods, and urged drivers to avoid excessive speed, risky overtaking, or abrupt maneuvers while maintaining safe distances between vehicles.

Motorists are also reminded to obey road signs and follow instructions from local authorities and traffic brigades to ensure smooth circulation.

For further information, drivers can contact the road directorate’s emergency center at 05 37 71 17 17.

Morocco continues to face severe weather across the country, including ample rainfall and cold temperatures expected to drop to between -4 and -9 degrees Celsius in Tinghir, Al Haouz, Midelt, Boulemane, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Azilal, Beni Mellal, and Ifrane.
