Rabat – Marouane Bentaleb, Captain of Morocco’s U17 national team, has officially signed his first professional contract with Dutch first tier Ajax Amsterdam, marking a major achievement in his promising career.
The 16-year-old, who can play both as a defender and midfielder, is set to stay at the Johan Cruijff ArenA until mid‑2029.
“Marouane is a modern defender who can also play in midfield. He is very composed on the ball and has a good feel for the game,” says Marijn Beuker Ajax U17 coach
“Ajax is a big club and I’m proud to play here. It’s a huge mark of appreciation that I was chosen as captain in my second season,” Bentaleb said in a statement. “It’s an honour and I want to fulfil that role as well as possible and be an extension of the coach. I try to help my teammates and get the maximum out of everything in all circumstances. The captain’s role suits me, I think.”
Bentaleb has already marked his captaincy of Morocco’s U17 Captain, claiming the first-ever U17 Africa Cup of Nations title in 2025 and being selected for the Tournament Best XI at the competition.
At Ajax Amsterdam, Bentaleb serves as captain of the U17 team. And he has developed into a key player, making a significant impact both on and off the pitch, setting an example for his teammates, and making a lasting impact throughout the academy.
